Strawbuilders Mission statement: Strawbuilder is dedicated to building and renovating homes to the highest green standards, structural sound integrity, quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction. We build beautiful artistic homes that are efficient and healthy both to the environment and the occupants. We create whole system designs to integrate your home with its natural surroundings. We encourage the creation of backyard habitat and the protection of intact habitat
Through our workshops and internships we strive to teach people how to house themselves in an eco-friendly manner. Give opportunity to individuals to gain confidence and self-empowerment from learning how to build their own shelters. We support local community and businesses.
Chris Alvey’s Background: Chris has worked with many of the pioneers of the current green and natural building renaissance including: John Swearingen, founder of Skillful Means Design and Construction; Ianto Evans, coauthor of The Hand Sculpted House; Joe Kennedy, coauthor of The Art of Natural Building. Chris received his degree in Cultural Ecology and Sustainable Communities and Ecological Dwelling and holds a certificate in Permaculture Design.
Chris Alvey has a background in conservation biology where he was trained to notice the interconnected cycles of all life and the importance of biodiversity. He is a skilled carpenter and artist. He enjoys building creatively and teaching others to build creatively.
